RULES AND REGULATIONS
Canada International Children’s Art Foundation will host a special event during the Canada International Children’s Art Festival with special support from the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of The People’s Republic of China. This event will be centered around a “Living Abroad Immersed in Glorious Chinese Culture” themed Painting & Calligraphy and Speech Competition.

Participation Requirements
Participants must be 17 years old and under
Speech Competition Special Group: Family Group (Youth must be 17 and under and must be accompanied by a family member)

- 6 years old and under
- 7 – 12 years old
- 13 – 17 years old
Speech Competition
- 6 years old and under

Art Categories
Paintings: Chinese paintings, water colour, oil paintings, pencil sketches, acrylic paint, etc…
Calligraphy: Pencil calligraphy, pen calligraphy, Asian seal carving art etc…
Speech Competition: Essays, poems, rhapsody or poetic exposition etc…
Regulations
Painting and Calligraphy
- Artwork entries are collected in Canada and China
- All artwork entries must be completed by the participants themselves
- Artwork’s theme of “Waterside” must stand-out
- All artwork entries are not limited to size
- All entries must include participant’s name, artwork name, age and phone number on the back of the artwork
- All submitted artwork will not be returned to the participants and will become the property of CICAF. Our organization has the right to auction, copy, distribute/publish, exhibit any artwork by any means deemed appropriate by CICAF
Speech Competition
- Participants must read the rules and regulations and fill out the registration form to identify their age group
- Participants must not read off of their scripts word for word and must provide judges a copy of their script
- Performances can be in Mandarin or English
- Each performance is limited to 3 minutes. Time limit is strictly enforced due to the large number of participants. Exceeding the time limit will result in disqualification
- Participants may be accompanied by soundtracks given they bring their own instrument or media player
- Participants should arrive 15 minutes before their performance
- Speech variations include: Individual performance, duo or family performance (Family group)
Registration Rules and Deadline
- Participants please fill out the registration forms online (Painting & Calligraphy Competition 、Speech Competition), when completed proceed to the payment options. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation code. Painting and Calligraphy participants please write down your name, artwork name, age and confirmation code on the back of the artwork. Please mail the artwork and registration form to our main office.
- Video submissions for the speech competition must be uploaded through Google or other Cloud Services. Please email the link and any necessary information to artwork@childrenart.ca

Judging Criteria
Paintings and Calligraphy
Our organizing committee has invited Canadian artists and other world-renowned artists (Chinese artists, calligraphy artists) and educators to judge this year’s competition. The judging criteria will be based on the artist’s creativity, theme and technique. Competition results and winners will be posted on our website at http://childrenart.ca.
Speech Competition
Our judges are made up of radio and television industry experts, who can provide valuable professional feedback and advice to guide our participants in the future.
The judging committee will judge video submissions separately from live performances. Awards will also be given out separately.
- The performer should be well dressed, full of energy with great posture
- The performer’s theme/topic should stand out and send a strong message to the audience
- The performer should deliver the speech with creativity
- The performance should be sincere and overflowing with passion
- Speech should be clear and well paced
- Correctly grasp the context of the work and resonate with the audience
Competition results will be published on our website. Selected winners will also be notified and invited to perform at our concert/award gala.
Awards
Gold: 1 Recipient for each category
Silver: 2 Recipients for each category
Bronze: 3 Recipients for each category
Award for Excellence: Awarded to each age group at the judges’ discretion
Most Creative Award: At the judges’ discretion
Organization Excellency Award: Given to institutions, schools and teachers that have recommended 50 pieces of artwork or more
Recipients of gold, silver, bronze and organization excellency awards receive a trophy and a certificate. Recipients of all other awards receive a certificate
Awards Ceremony and Art Booklet
The “Living Abroad Immersed in Glorious Chinese Culture” themed calligraphy and speech competition awards ceremony/concert gala will take place on August 9, 2019 at the Richmond Hill Center for the Performing Arts. The organizing committee will announce the list of award winners. If the recipient cannot attend the ceremony, the awards can be mailed. (A $15 mailing fee will apply)
The organizing committee will invite professionals and well-established individuals from the arts and business industry along with members from the Canadian Government. Certificates will also be signed by members of the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto as well as the President of the Canada International Children’s Art Foundation.
Our organizing committee will also publish a “17th Annual Canada International Children’s Art Festival, Living Abroad Immersed in Glorious Chinese Culture” themed calligraphy and speech competition art collection and DVD.
The art collection booklet will be published in October, 2019. It is available for pre-order at $30/booklet. Individuals will receive a discounted price of $25/booklet if submitted at the time of artwork and registration form submission. Delivery services are available at $15/booklet. Please email our organizing committee at info@childrenart.ca and provide your name, quantity of booklets, mailing address and WeChat payment number to confirm order details.
