Music Competition Rules and Regulations

 

Please read these Festival Rules carefully before you register. Please read the Syllabus of each class carefully so you are sure that you understand all the Festival Rules and implications.

Participation requirements:                                         

17 years old and under (All Nationalities, All Regions, All Ethnicity, Special needs)

Age Group:     

According to the Royal Canadian Conservatory level group (Please see Syllabus)

Categories:     

Piano Classes

String Classes

Wind Instrument Classes

Vocal Classes

Brass Classes

Entries Requirement

1. Performance requirements & programming procedure:

Pieces in all graded competitive classes must be chosen from the current Royal Conservatory of Music Curriculum. Participants are permitted to enter classes in different grades. Participants cannot  perform the same piece in more than one class. Memorization is compulsory for all competitive classes, unless otherwise indicated: non-memorized performances will receive adjudication only.

2. Duration of pieces:

Time limits must be strictly observed. Please omit all repeats except D.C.

3. All entries and related materials for the festival will not be refunded. The ownership of the entries will belong to the Organizing Committee of the Canada International Children ’s Art Festival. The organizing committee has the right to auction, copy, distribute, exhibit, and film the selected works; the right to take pictures and publicly use the photos freely; to use the author’s information in the registration form and website for the booklet publication and promotional purpose. 

Registration and schedule

1. Participants, please fill out the registration form first, click here to register online.

2. After the submission of the registration form is successful, the system will automatically generate the “Registration Confirmation Code”.

3. Upload the performance video to the network cloud disk (Google, Baidu cloud disk).

4. Send the cloud disk link method, sharing password and “registration confirmation code” to the email designated by the organizing committee: artwork@childrenart.ca. And note: Registration for the music competition

5. the participants will be charged an registration fee of $ 50 CAD /entry ($ 50 USD / entry outside Canada), and all the fees will be used to supplement the cost of the festival.

6. Payment method:

Canada: cash, cheque or online payment e-Transfer to CICAF (email: info@childrenart.ca) The cheque should be payable to: Canada International Children ’s Art Foundation.

Other: Paypal and WeChat Pay.

Please put your name and category of the competition when paying. After successful payment, please send your name, category, registration confirmation code, payment method, payment confirmation code to payment@childrenart.ca

7. After confirming the receipt of the entries and payment information, the organizing committee will notify the participants by email.

Confirmation notices:

Confirmation notices with the participant’s finalized class schedule will be e-mailed to the participant. It is the responsibility of the applicant to check the confirmed schedule. E-mail address is included on the registration form.

Adjudication:

Adjudicators’ decisions are final and in their sole discretion. Each participant is judged based upon the highest artistic standards with regards to musicianship, technical proficiency and stage performance. The Adjudicator reserves the right not to award any or all prizes.

Certificate eligibility:

To be eligible to receive a certificate, the following minimum marks are required:

                  1st   Place:   85%;

                  2nd Place:   80%;

                  3rd Place:   75%.

Scholarship eligibility:

Participants must compete in a minimum of 3 competitive classes with the same instrument. Scholarships are awarded based on Adjudicator’s marks and recommendations of competitors who display the most potential to develop musically in the future.

Trophies:

All participants who receive highest marks in each category are eligible to receive a trophy.

Participant could choose to pick up the trophy and certificate or request to mail them at their own cost.

(All scholarships and trophies will be presented at the Gala Concert to participants who confirm their attendance by purchasing Gala tickets in advance. Either the Award winner or a representative must attend the Gala Concert to collect the award. Some 1st Place certificate recipients may be asked to perform at the Gala Concert. )

Music sheets:

Photocopies are not permitted and will result in disqualification: original music must be provided to the Adjudicator.

Arrivals:

Participants must arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled class time.

Instrumentalists must provide their own accompanists and page-turner, if needed. Competitors are responsible for all their expenses related to the Festival. String instrument competitors may have their instruments tuned by another person.

Electronic equipment:

Photography, audio/video taping of classes, competitors or adjudicators are strictly prohibited.

Festival Proceedings:

All classes are open and free to the public except for Master Classes, which require payment of an entrance fee.

CICAF reserves the right to combine or subdivide any classes at its sole discretion. In the case of unforeseeable events, CICAF reserves the right to reschedule or cancel the Festival. CICAF is not responsible for any personal injury, loss or damage to personal property, including instruments.

The Concert Gala may only be photographed or recorded by CICAF for marketing, promotional or fundraising purposes on any media, including the Festival website, Facebook, and press releases, without any monetary or other obligation to the participants or third parties.

Please note: However, to ensure classes are timed properly, it is of utmost importance to state the correct performance time. It is the sole responsibility of the Applicants to ensure correct class codes and timings are entered on the registration form.
